  • Day trip to Oxford Saturday 30 March 2019

The March social is also the Beer Festival Thank-You trip: a day trip by coach to the historic city of Oxford. Response to this has been good, with over 30 seats already taken. It's free for anyone who volunteered at our beer festival last October; there is a charge of £10 for anyone else, and there are still around a dozen spaces. Anyone attending the branch meeting can pay me there; can I ask everyone who's put their hand up for the trip to let me know where they will board the coach - Knowle, Solihull or Shirley.

  • Beer and Curry night Thursday 18 April 2019 18:30 Forest Hotel

Meet in the “Forest Hotel” in Dorridge anytime from 6.30pm onwards for a few pints. Leave at 8pm for a short walk down the road to the “Saleem Bagh” Indian Restaurant.

The “Forest Hotel” is only over the road from Dorridge station so is relatively easy to get too. Afterwards we can either go back to the Forest or move onto either the KDCC or “The Railway”. I will need to confirm the number of people out of courtesy to the restaurant by the 08/04/19 at the very latest, so if you are going to attend can you please let me Dave Mckowen know asap at ku.gro.armac.lluhilos@pihsrebmem .

  • Mid week Pub crawl - Burton on Trent - TBC Friday 26 April 2019 10:00

    TBC

  • Hinkley by minibus Saturday 25 May 2019 10:00

This is a daytime social using a Minibus to visit a brewery & pubs within Hinckley and then on our way back visiting two GBG listed pubs in Leicestershire. See details below:- Minibus will do the usual pickups in this order Knowle, Solihull Station & Shirley Station. We will then make our way to Hinckley.

Our first port of call will be the Elliswood brewery, not far from the Town Centre where the owner/brewer will show us around and then we can sample a couple of his beers. Following this the minibus will then drop us in the town centre where we can either split up or stay as one group and explore the town centre hostelries. Food stop will probably be the Wetherspoons as they are quite quick to maximise our sampling time. Maps of the town centre real ale outlets will be provided.

We will leave Hinckley at 5.30pm and then head off to Ashby-de-la-Zouch to visit the micropub “Tap at No.76” to sample up to 7 real ales, leave here at 7pm to get to the “Black Lion” in Blackfordby with 5 guest beers available. Then head off at 8pm to arrive in Knowle at around 9pm followed by Solihull Station, Shirley etc.

    Transport Costs Etc

As we intend to use a minibus the cost per person will be £16.00, this is based on a full minibus. A £10.00 non refundable deposit will secure your place, if however the trip doesn’t go ahead for reasons beyond our control you will get your deposit back.

If we have less than 16 people its not cost effective so we will use public transport. We would have to catch a train from New St, then a short local bus journey to the brewery and back to Hinckley town centre to visit the pubs then probably leaving Hinckley at about 7pm, however this would mean missing the two stops on the journey home. Return train to Hinckley cost is £13.65.

If you would like to come on the above Hinckley Social contact me via the details below but please bear in mind to secure your place I will need a £10.00 deposit which you can give to me at the next branch meeting on the 01/04/19. If you can’t make that date/time, contact me Dave Mckowen via email ku.gro.armac.lluhilos@pihsrebmem()
